There are many ways to stand tall in life, physically and emotionally.  Physically we stand tall because we are in a dance class or when it comes time to measure up to our growing kids (guilty!).  Emotionally we stand tall when we feel proud or brave or beautiful lifting our heads and spines high.

Pilates can connect the body to the ground from head to torso, legs, feet. It can help loosen tight muscles and strengthen weak ones in order to help a body grow and stand taller, maintain good spinal curves, and stack the spine.  But if the emotional side is not onboard, the ideal tall posture will not leave the pilates studio.

If our emotions can change the way we hold ourselves, maybe we can stand tall to improve how we feel? According to a study in the European Journal of Social Psychology in 2009, just sitting up straight, a simple power pose, may increase self-confidence.  Additionally, power poses may also help lessen pain, suggested a study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology in 2012.
